National Mission on Natural Farming

The National Mission on Natural Farming aims to build institutional capacities for documenting and disseminating best practices, to involve practicing farmers in the promotion strategy, to ensure capacity building and continuous handholding, and, finally, to attract farmers to natural farming willingly based on the merits of the system.

Natural Farming

The scheme’s major objectives are to promote alternative farming systems, reduce costs, and increase farmers’ income.
• To promote integrated agriculture-animal husbandry methods using desi cows and local resources.
• Collect, validate, and document Natural Farming practices across the country. Encourage farmer participation in scaling up.
• Conduct initiatives to raise awareness, create capacity, promote, and demonstrate Natural Farming practices.
• Develop standards, certification procedures, and branding for natural farming products in national and international markets.

Benefits

• Natural farmers reported similar yields to conventional farmers. In other circumstances, larger yields per harvest were observed.
• Natural farming eliminates health dangers associated with synthetic chemicals. The food has a higher nutritional density and so provides greater health advantages.
• Natural farming promotes soil biology, agrobiodiversity, and water conservation, while reducing carbon and nitrogen footprints.
• Natural farming strives to increase farmers’ net incomes through cost reduction, reduced risks, comparable yields, and intercropping.
• Natural farming optimizes crop yield by utilizing varied crops that complement each other and cover the soil to reduce water loss through evaporation.
