Fish is the least expensive and quickest digestible animal protein and has been acquired for human consumption from natural sources since ancient times. That being said, the population of fish in natural waters has dropped dramatically because of over-exploitation and pollution, pushing scientists to follow different ways of increasing their production. Fish farming is becoming a simpler way to increase fish population and its quality for consumption, under governed or under controlled circumstances. Since the 1970s, the fish farming industry has grown rapidly at a rate of 9 per cent per year.

Approximately 50 per cent of spending on fish farming derives from feed costs, which are high because of the expense of protein component in diets. The environmentally friendly and cost-effective fisheries system called “Biofloc Technology (BFT)” is considered a useful alternate solution system, as nutrients can be collected and recycled constantly.

This cost-effective Fish Farming Method is conducted in a vessel that comes in different sizes. Biofloc technology transforms idle feed and aqua animal faeces into food in a culture system while being revealed to sunlight generating a live feed rich in proteins. The cost of feeding boils down by transferring excess into food once again. The principal component of Biofloc is heterotrophic bacteria. It decreases the ammonia and nitrite that is generated by feeding the fish. These heterotrophic bacteria eat ammonia and then transforms it into protein. Fish could then eat this for growth. It tends to work as real fish feed. Also, it has better nutritional values.
