Income tax slabs, rebate & deductions — FY 2026-27
Rates are unchanged from last year. Here’s the new regime structure, and where the old regime can still save you more.
Effectively tax-free up to ₹12 lakh. The Section 87A rebate (up to ₹60,000) cancels the entire tax liability for resident individuals with net taxable income up to ₹12 lakh. Add the ₹75,000 standard deduction for salaried taxpayers, and take-home income up to roughly ₹12.75 lakh can be tax-free. The rebate doesn’t extend to NRIs or to income taxed at special rates, such as certain capital gains
| Particulars | Old Regime | New Regime (Default) |
|---|---|---|
| Basic exemption limit (below 60 years) | ₹2.5 lakh | ₹4 lakh |
| Standard deduction (Salaried employees) | ₹50,000 | ₹75,000 |
| Section 87A rebate ceiling | Up to ₹5 lakh taxable income | Up to ₹12 lakh taxable income |
| Deductions under Section 80C, HRA, Home Loan Interest | Available | Not available |
| Employer NPS — Section 80CCD(2) | Available | Available |
Which regime wins for you? If your eligible deductions cross roughly ₹4–4.5 lakh a year, the old regime can still be cheaper, especially above ₹15 lakh income. Below that, the new regime usually comes out ahead. We run both calculations for every client before filing.
GST rates, registration, returns & ITC
GST 2.0 reshuffled the rate structure in late 2025. Here’s where
things stand, and what registration and filing involve.
0%
5%
18%
40%
| Requirement | Threshold / Frequency |
|---|---|
| Registration — Goods Businesses | Above ₹40 lakh turnover (₹20 lakh in special category states) |
| Registration — Service Businesses | Above ₹20 lakh turnover (₹10 lakh in special category states) |
| Interstate / E-commerce Sellers | Registration required regardless of turnover |
| GSTR-1 (Outward Supplies) | Monthly, or quarterly under QRMP |
| GSTR-3B (Summary Return & Tax Payment) | Monthly, or quarterly under QRMP |
| GSTR-9 (Annual Return) | Annually, by 31 December |
Input Tax Credit (ITC): ITC claims are now validated against your suppliers’ filings — if a vendor hasn’t filed correctly, your credit (and your GSTR-3B) can get blocked. Monthly reconciliation of GSTR-2B against your purchase register is the only way to avoid last-minute credit denial.
Compliance calendar — FY 2025-26 filings
The key dates across income tax, GST and audit, in one place.
Due dates by filing type
| Filing | Due Date |
|---|---|
| ITR-1 / ITR-2 (salaried, non-audit) | 31 July 2026 |
| ITR-3 / ITR-4 (non-audit business/professional) | 31 August 2026 |
| Tax audit report (Form 3CD) | 30 September 2026 |
| ITR — tax audit cases | 31 October 2026 |
| ITR — transfer pricing cases | 30 November 2026 |
| GSTR-3B (monthly) | 20th of every month |
| GSTR-1 (monthly) | 11th of every month |
| TDS return (quarterly) | 31 Jul / 31 Oct / 31 Jan / 31 May |
| Advance tax (4 installments) | 15 Jun · 15 Sep · 15 Dec · 15 Mar |
Missing a due date means late fees under Section 234F, GST late fees and interest, and — for income tax — the loss of certain loss carry-forward benefits. We track every client’s calendar so nothing is filed at the last minute.
