National Beekeeping & Honey Mission

a) Enhancing the beekeeping industry to generate income and employment, support farm and non-farm households, and improve agriculture/horticulture production.

b) Creating infrastructure for developing quality nucleus stock of honeybees, multiplication by bee breeders, disease diagnostic labs, and Integrated Beekeeping Development Centers (IBDCs/CoEs) on beekeeping.

c) Establishing cutting-edge quality control labs for honey and beehive products at regional and district levels in major honey production areas.

d) Create a blockchain/traceability system to track the origin of honey and other beehive products. Utilize IT resources for beekeeping, such as online registration.
e) Establish honey corridors in prospective areas. 

f) Encourage agri-entrepreneurs and startups to participate in beekeeping and honey production.

g) Promote cutting-edge technologies and skill development in the beekeeping industry to produce high-value honey and other beehive products.

h) Empower women through beekeeping.

i) Maximize economic, ecological, and social benefits by diversifying beekeeping by producing high-quality honey and other beehive products such as bee wax, pollen, propolis, royal jelly, and more.

The scheme envisions the following benefits:

1) Improves crop yields and quality, including fruits, vegetables, legumes, and oil seeds, through pollination support.
2) Promotes sustainable development of agriculture and the environment.
3) Promotes biodiversity.

4) Increases income for national beekeepers, farmers, and landless laborers by producing honey and other beehive products such as bees wax, propolis, pollen, royal jelly, bee venom, and comb honey, all of which are essential to human survival.
5) Provides jobs.
6) Provides a means of livelihood.
7) It benefits farmers, promotes health, and builds a stronger nation.
8) Adopt scientific beekeeping for personal and national success.

Eligibility

Anyone can apply to the scheme.

Application Process

Step 1: All component schemes are project-based (save for training/seminar/exposure visits).
Step 2: The following implementing agencies will submit their initiatives directly to the National Bee Board. (NDDB, NAFED, TRIFED, SFAC, ICAR, CAUS/SAUS)
Step 3: Agencies submitting projects through the state government’s SLSC, such as the Department of Horticulture/Agriculture and Member Companies/firms/societies/SHGS/FIGS/FPC.
Step 04: Board examines/appraises projects in accordance with scheme guidelines and norms, and submits them to PAC.

Step 05: The Project Appraisal Committee (PAC) chaired by the Horticulture Commissioner appraises and recommends projects up to one crore and recommends them to the Board’s Execute Committee (EC) chaired by the Additional Secretary (for projects over five crore).
Step 06: Projects worth more than 5 crore are referred to the Project Appraisal & Monitoring Committee (PA&MC), led by the Secretary of Agriculture, for approval.
Step 07: Once the project has been approved, the applicant must register on the Madhukranti Portal for Individuals/Societies/FPOs and provide information such as land data and a site layout land plan.
Step 8: Submit the entire DPR as per the guidelines.
Step 09: Apply for lifelong membership in case of member societies, firms, or cooperatives.
