PKVY strives to encourage and promote organic farming, which will result in improved soil health. The plan supports the Participatory Guarantee System (PGS) For India (PGS- India), a type of organic certification that is based on mutual trust, is locally relevant, and requires producer and consumer participation in the certification process. PGS – India operates outside of the scope of “Third Party Certification.”
The Central and State Governments contribute 60:40 to the scheme’s funding. Central support is supplied in the ratio of 90:10 (Centre:State) in the Northeastern and Himalayan states, and 100% in Union Territories. The Scheme seeks to cover an additional 6,00,000 hectares in organic farming by 2025-26.
The goal is to produce agricultural goods free of chemical and pesticide residues by utilizing environmentally friendly, low-cost methods. PKVY’s key thrust areas in promoting organic farming are as follows:
• Promoting integrated and climate-resilient farming systems that maintain and increase soil fertility, conserve natural resources, recycle nutrients, and reduce farmers’ reliance on external inputs.
• Improve farmers’ net income per unit of land by reducing agricultural costs through sustainable integrated organic farming methods.
