The drumstick is a vegetable plant farmed for its nutrient-dense delicate pods, leaves, and blossoms. Drumstick trees are endemic to India and are softwood trees. The trees are cultivated in tropical and subtropical climates all over the world. For its numerous properties, the drumstick tree is known by several English common names, including Moringa, drumstick tree, benzoil tree, and horseradish tree. The tree is a perennial vegetable tree that grows quickly and is drought tolerant.

The trees are modest to medium in size, growing to a height of around 10 to 12 metres. The tree limbs are hanging with tripinnate leaves with elliptic leaflets. The pods are lengthy and pendulous, measuring between 20 and 80 cm in length. Inside, the seeds are trigonous in form, with wings on angles.

The tree yields yellowish milky white blooms with a lovely aroma that grow on short hairy stalks. The tree’s blossoming time varies by area in India and is heavily impacted by rain, soil, and other environmental factors. In South Indian circumstances, flowering happens just once a year, between January and August. Peak flowering occurs in central Kerala from December to January, in southern Kerala from February to March, in Coimbatore from March to May, and in Bangalore from July to September

Flowering can occur twice or throughout the year under settings with steady seasonal temperatures and consistent rainf. The trees begin to yield pods six months after planting.
