What Is the National Livestock Mission (NLM)

The National Livestock Mission is a Central Government scheme run by the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying (MFAHD), Government of India. It provides 50% capital subsidy to farmers, entrepreneurs, FPOs, SHGs, and cooperatives for setting up livestock farming units across India.

The scheme is implemented through the NLM portal at nlm.udyamimitra.in and subsidy is channelled through NABARD and SIDBI.

NLM 2026 Latest Updates:

  • Horse, Donkey, and Camel farming added as new eligible categories
  • Women entrepreneurs and women-led SHGs given priority approval
  • Livestock insurance now covers up to 10 cattle units per household — government pays 85% of the premium
  • Applications fully digitized — submitted online through nlm.udyamimitra.in
  • Subsidy released in two equal instalments — first at project start, second after verified completion

Why a Project Report Is Mandatory for NLM Subsidy

Every NLM subsidy application — whether submitted online through nlm.udyamimitra.in or through your bank — requires a detailed project report covering:

  • Project cost with full breakup — shed construction, equipment, animal cost, working capital
  • Technical specifications — unit size, breed selection, feeding plan, waste management
  • Financial projections — revenue, operating costs, gross profit, net profit for 5 years
  • Repayment plan — loan repayment schedule with DSCR calculation
  • Employment generation details — number of direct and indirect jobs created
  • Subsidy calculation — eligible capital cost and 50% subsidy amount as per NLM guidelines

A project report that is missing any of these elements — or prepared using generic software — will be returned by the bank or DFSCO without processing. This delays your subsidy application by weeks or months.

Why Your NLM Project Report Must Be CA-Certified

Banks and DFSCO offices reject NLM project reports that are:

  • Generated by AI tools or online software — no CA stamp or certification
  • Using generic financial projections not specific to your livestock unit
  • Missing subsidy calculation in the correct NLM-EDP format
  • Prepared for a different scheme or bank and reused without modification
  • Showing financial figures inconsistent with NLM capital cost norms

A CA-certified project report — prepared specifically for your livestock type, unit size, location, and the NLM-EDP operational guidelines — is what separates approved NLM applications from rejected ones.
