Need a CMA Report for a Bank Loan?

If your bank has asked for “CMA data” alongside your loan application, you’re not alone in finding the request confusing — most business owners have never seen the format before. It’s a structured financial statement banks use to judge whether your business can repay what it’s borrowing, and getting even one number wrong can stall your file for weeks.

Sharda Associates prepares your CMA report from your actual financials — not a generic template — matching the exact format your bank expects, so it moves through credit appraisal without back-and-forth queries.

Had to give two stars for the lack of commitment from the team.
Before paying for the service, I have enquired if there is any time restriction or restriction on number of changes and was told no. However Second report was erroneous and had to make corrections for the points missed.
Now the team wants me to pay additional amount for making changes related to Fiinancials.
Extremely disappointed

The Basics

What is a CMA Report?

CMA Report Full Form

Credit Monitoring Arrangement — a financial reporting format introduced by the RBI to standardise how banks assess borrowers.

What is a CMA Report?

A structured set of 7 financial statements covering your business’s past performance, current position, and future projections.

Why do banks ask for it?

It gives credit officers a standardised, comparable view of repayment capacity — rather than relying on unstructured financials.

Purpose of a CMA Report

To assess viability, calculate your Maximum Permissible Bank Finance (MPBF), and monitor account health after disbursement.

The Threshold Question

Is a CMA Report Mandatory for a Bank Loan?

Loan ScenarioIs a CMA Report Required?
Working capital limits (Cash Credit / Overdraft)Yes, typically required for bank credit appraisal, especially for higher credit limits.
Small MUDRA loans (Shishu, Kishor, Tarun)Usually not. A simplified project report or projected financial statements are often sufficient, depending on the bank.
Term loans requiring detailed financial appraisalCommonly required as part of the lender’s credit assessment process.
PMEGP / CGTMSE-backed loansOften required. Some banks may accept simplified projected financial statements depending on the scheme guidelines.
Renewal or enhancement of existing CC/OD limitsYes, generally required to assess the borrower’s latest financial performance and repayment capacity.
Consortium or multiple-bank financingYes, typically mandatory as part of the joint credit appraisal process.
Startup business loansMay be required if the lender requests projected financial statements along with the project report.
MSME working capital financeFrequently required, depending on the credit limit and the bank’s internal lending policy.

CMA Report Cost

Loan Amount

Larger facilities typically involve more detailed projections and supporting analysis.

Number of Projected Years

A 3-year projection costs less to prepare than a 5-year one built for project finance.

Business Complexity

Multiple product lines, locations, or revenue streams add to preparation time.

Availability of Audited Financials

Clean, audited historicals speed up preparation; reconstructing books from scratch adds cost.

Bank-Specific Formatting

Some banks and schemes (PMEGP, NABARD) require particular formats that need extra structuring.

Urgency

Same-day or next-day turnaround is available and priced separately from standard delivery.

Avoid These

Common Reasons Banks Reject CMA Reports

Wrong Projections

Sales or profit figures that don’t align with historical growth trends draw immediate scrutiny.

Low DSCR

A Debt Service Coverage Ratio below the bank’s comfort threshold signals repayment risk.

Wrong MPBF

An incorrectly calculated working capital limit undermines confidence in the entire report.

Cash Flow Mismatch

An incorrectly calculated working capital limit undermines confidence in the entire report.

Unrealistic Sales

Overly optimistic revenue growth without a credible basis is one of the fastest ways to get flagged.

Balance Sheet Errors

Assets and liabilities that don’t reconcile across years undermine the credibility of the whole report.

Missing Statements

Submitting an incomplete set — fewer than all 7 statements — is treated as a non-compliant submission.
